Seeing Others Through God's Eyes! While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 NIV
The old Bible lay on a bargain table amid hundreds of tattered books. A lot of people had picked it up and thumbed through its faded pages. It wasn't in very good shape - certainly not worth two pounds. So it was cast aside. But then a man picked it up and stifled a shout. He rushed to the counter and paid the paltry sum for the old book. It was an original Gutenberg, estimated to be worth more than one million pounds. You have to wonder who turned it over to the "Last Chance Booksellers." How many times did the old book change hands before its redemption? The world cast it aside, unaware of its value.
And we do the same thing, don't we? Seeds of greatness lie buried within unpromising people that abruptly spring to life when they're recognised, watered and nurtured.
In truth, we were all passed over until Jesus saw something of value in us. But rather than paying a bargain price, He paid the highest price. Listen: "While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
A different world would appear before our eyes if we could begin to see every man, woman, boy and girl as a precious treasure that God couldn't live without, that Christ died to redeem.
Look at Matthew: when Jesus found him he was a despised tax collector, a pen pusher working for the Romans. But Jesus said, "Follow me" ( Matthew 9:9). And Matthew did. And he brought his pen, for the Master had a writing assignment for him.
